Willy Strauss - The Perpetuation of a Legend

Born in Vienna on December 31, 1954 as great-great-grandson in the renowned "Strauss-Dynasty", Willy Strauss began his musical career in 1968-69 as singer in the world-famous musical "Hair" performing in Vienna. In the course of the following years, he was discovered as a singer in various bands and had numerous performances in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Austria and the Philippines.  In 1995 he founded his own band becoming known as one of the top commercial bands in Austria. The pinnacle of his career was a personal meeting with "Lady Diana" in Oberlech/Vorarlberg, where he was performing with his band.

Since he has great interest in passing on the cultural heritage of his forefathers, he founded the "Johann Strauss Dynasty Orchestra" together with a number of classical musicians. He became even more famous when he was invited in 1999 as a "Special Guest" in the TV-Talkshow "Vera", as well as in the "High Society" Show "Seitenblicke". On October 12, 2004 he was the star guest in the "Barbara Karlich" show and had another appearance as active guest in December 2004 on the Talkshow "Vera".

2001/02, 2002/03 and 2004/05 he had three memorable tours to China, which brougt him great success. On September 4, 2005 his band was the highlight at the 30th anniversary of the "Vienna International Garden Show".

His mother Hedwig Strauss is honorary member of the "Vienna Johann Strauss Society", whose president Prof. Franz Mailer is the internationally acclaimed expert for the music of Strauss and is the programm advisor for the New Year's concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Prof. Mag. Peter Widholz, general secretary of the Vienna Johann Strauss Society, who is an internationally known tenor and composer-arranger, works closely with Willy Strauss, arranging songs together.

He is a great animal lover and has 4 dogs and 2 cats, as you can see in these pictures. Here you can also see his contract for the musical "Hair", as well as a picture of a "Strauss" teddybear, made by the company Steiff in 1999.
